OVERVIEW

Located approximately 20 kilometres south of Valencia, the Albufera Natural Park derives its name from the Arabic word “al-buhayra,” meaning “the small sea.” It is a freshwater lagoon separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow strip of land dotted with dunes. Covering over 2,100 hectares, it stands as one of the largest lakes in Spain. The Albufera National Park is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including 1000-year-old rice fields, dune beaches, and the lagoon, making it one of the major tourist attractions around Valencia. These picturesque wetlands have provided a refuge for over 250 species of birds. The best way to reach Albufera is by bike. Despite its distance from the city, the circular route is perfectly adapted for cyclists, with designated lanes and suitable for individuals with moderate physical fitness. The journey takes you through the famous Turia Gardens and the architectural marvel, the City of Arts and Sciences. Once in the countryside, you can revel in captivating and gorgeous natural scenery. Upon arriving at the Albufera Park, take time to recover from your pedalling workout and immerse yourself in the nature-related pleasures it offers, including the scent of pine trees, birdsong, and the soothing murmur of water. Various specially designated outlook posts allow you to observe feathered creatures in their natural habitat. The Albufera Park serves a utilitarian dimension, being part of a larger complex known as “La huerta de Valencia,” which supplies natural foods to the city. The surrounding 1,000-year-old rice fields, for example, contribute to the production of rice for traditional Spanish paella. Upon request, the tour can be supplemented with a gastronomic trip to nearby El Palmar. Here, you can savour the best paella on earth, as El Palmar is where Spanish paella originated.

MEETING AND PICKUP

Private tour: you will have our guide entirely for yourself. You can choose any time to commence the tour, but due to it´s lengths we really recommend choosing morning hours.

If you're in the city centre or the City of Arts and Sciences area, we offer the option to start the tour from your hotel/apartment. This is complimentary, but requires a 48-hour notice and a minimum of 4 people in your group. While we strive to accommodate, this service is subject to availability, especially during peak times. Please inform us in advance, and we'll make every effort to ensure your Valencia tour is as convenient as possible.

ADDITIONAL INFO

One of our passionate guides will be with you during the entire tour. They speak different languages and will be assigned according to your booking preference. This tour requires a medium level of physical fitness. If you are unsure about handling the 40 km long ride, we recommend choosing an electric bike for a more comfortable experience. The electric bike option allows you to enjoy the journey with less physical exertion, ensuring that participants of varying fitness levels can fully appreciate the beauty of the Albufera National Park.
